Pokemon Paldean Fates: What We Know so Far About the Upcoming Set

Paldean Fates is the new special set of the English Pokemon TCG that we have been waiting for. Pokemon has announced that Paldean Fates will be released in January and February 2024. 

You may wonder why a TCG set has more than one release date, but Paldean Fates will have different special products that will be released on different dates. 

To be specific, Pokemon will be releasing different Paldean Fates products on January 26, February 9, and February 23. The anticipation for this new set is very high as the Pokemon company has already announced that there will be more than 130 shiny Pokemon in this set.

What Paldean Fates Will Bring to The Table

As we've said above, Paldean Fates will include new shiny Pokemon cards that we've been expecting for a while. But the new shiny Pokemon aren’t the only thing Paldean Fates has to offer.

Paldean Fates will feature a total of:

  • More than 240 cards

  • More than 120 Shiny Pokemon, including a shiny Pikachu!

  • 11 Shiny Pokemon EX like Tera Charizard EX and Tera Esparthra EX.

  • 7 Pokemon EX and 3 Tera Pokemon EX.

  • 3 Illustration Rare cards and 8 Special Illustration Rare cards containing Shiny Pokemon and Supporter cards.

  • Several Full-Art Supporters.

  • 6 Hyper Rare cards that feature a unique enhanced foil effect.

A thing we haven’t mentioned just yet, is that Paldean Fates will actually be the English version of the Japanese Shiny Treasure EX, which will be released on December 1. So, we’ll definitely know much more about the English release right after the Japanese release this week. Still, we already know some facts about the products of the English version. That said, we can expect the first Pokemon Paldean Fates products to hit the stores on January 26.

The Special Pokemon Paldean Fates Products

To start with Paldean Fates products, it's important to mention that just like most other special Pokemon TCG sets, there will be no individual booster packs for Paldean Fates. So, just like with the recent special Pokemon 151 set, this means that the only way to get Paldean Fates booster packs is through the special products.

Let’s take a look at all the Paldean Fates products that we know so far will be officially released:

Paldean Fates ETB

The Elite Trainer Box of Paldean Fates is expected to arrive with the first batch of products on January 26 and will include one Shiny Illustration Rare promo that will feature Mimikyu. In addition, this ETB will include 9 Paldean Fates booster packs and multiple other gameplay accessories like dice, markers, sleeves, etc.

Paldean Fates Tech Sticker Collections

This new special Pokemon TCG product is also expected to hit the market with the first batch of Paldean Fates products on January 26. Tech Sticker Collections will include three Paldean Fates booster packs, one large sticker to help you personalize your laptop, tablet or other tech device and one Shiny promo card featuring Greavard, Maschiff or Fidough.

Paldean Fates Tins

Paldean Fates Tins will come with 3 different variations and are expected to hit the stores on February 9. These tins will include 4 Paldean Fates booster packs and one of the 3 available Pokemon EX promo cards featuring Shiny Great Tusk EX, Shiny Iron Treads EX or Shiny Tera Charizard EX.

Paldean Fates Mini Tins

Mini Tins in this set will come out on February 9th and will include 2 Paldean Fates booster packs. Besides that, these mini tins will also offer one sticker sheet and one art card that will match the tin’s exterior design (Maushold, Smoliv, Tinkatink, Finizen or Flamigo).

Paldean Fates Premium Collections

Paldean Fates Premium Collection is another special product that we expect to see with the second batch of Paldean Fates products on February 9. These collections will come in 3 different variations and will include 8 Paldean Fates booster packs, two Shiny promo cards, one Shiny Pokemon EX card that will feature Mewoscarada EX, Skeledirge EX or Quaquabal EX. In addition, Paldean Fates Premium Collection will also offer one oversize Shiny Pokemon EX card and a card display for three Pokemon cards.

Paldean Fates Booster Bundle

Paldean Fates Booster Bundles is the only product we know for sure will be included in the last batch of Paldean Fates products on February 23. This well-known Pokemon product will contain 6 Paldean Fates Booster Packs.

What We Can Expect From Paldean Fates?

Well, in terms of collectibles, Paldean Fates will probably be a great set! The new Shiny Pokemon cards will attract numerous players and collectors around the world and the new, unique 6 Hyper Rare cards are something everyone is anticipating. Some of the special sealed products featured above also hide some surprises and innovations, like the card display you’ll find in premium collections.

On the other hand, when it comes to meta-relevance, we can’t say exactly how this set will impact the current Pokemon TCG competitive scene. We’ll need to wait for the Japanese release first. In any case, we already know that some cards featured will see play in the meta for the next few months.
